The Town of Witless Bay and the Witless Bay Volunteer Fire Department are delighted to welcome Jack Gatherall to the position of Fire Chief. Jack has been a dedicated volunteer since 2015 and is very familiar with how the Department functions at all levels.
In his time with the Department, he’s completed professional NFPA 1001 Level I and II certification training, and in 2019 was recognized as Firefighter of the Year. Jack was also elected as the Department’s Training Officer and in that role has hosted weekly training sessions, facilitated extra educational opportunities for volunteers, and adapted to virtual training in the face of COVID-19. Jack was also instrumental in facilitating the development of the smokehouse training facility.
The Town of Witless Bay recognizes and appreciates the deep commitment of current and former volunteers with the Department, and so we felt it was important to promote from within if at all possible.
In Jack we feel we found an excellent candidate for Fire Chief, one who knows the Department, the area, our strengths and weaknesses, and has shown his unwavering dedication to furthering the goals of the department for years to come.
We are very excited to work with him, the Assistant Chief, the Officers and all members as we support the growth and well-being of this critical regional service.
