The Town of Witless Bay is excited to welcome our new Town Manager, Shawn Kavanagh, to our team as of February 21, 2022.
Shawn grew up in Calvert, here on the Southern Shore, and has deep roots in Witless Bay. He spent many a happy day at his grandparents’ home on Fisherman’s Road; in recent years living there full time.
Shawn has a great deal of energy and enthusiasm for Witless Bay and his new position. We are looking forward to working with him and the rest of the town staff, the Witless Bay Volunteer Fire Department, as well as volunteer groups and committees in the town to create a vibrant, inclusive community.
In 2011, Shawn graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours). He went on to graduate with a Master of Arts from Queen’s University in Political Studies in 2012, and in 2016 he graduated Juris Doctor from the University of New Brunswick.
Shawn has significant experience in studying and examining public policy under some of Canada’s greatest scholars in the area, experience which will prove invaluable when tasked with helping Council develop public policy. Shawn was called to the bar in 2017, and brings significant experience in Municipal Law as well as labour relations.
As a volunteer, Shawn is currently serving as the Chairman of the Calvert Local Service District, as well as a member of the Board of Directors for the CBDC Celtic. In his spare time Shawn can be found enjoying his cabin in the woods in Calvert, or cheering on his Toronto Maple Leafs (nobody is perfect).
